FAQ’s

What should I expect in the 15-minute telephone call?

During the 15-minute consultation call, we will discuss what leads you to therapy and what to expect upon beginning services with Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., PLLC. You can also ask questions to help us determine whether you and Dr. Martinez fit therapeutically.

Are you only doing telehealth?

Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., provides both telehealth and in-office sessions. The physical office is located in Mooresville, NC.

Are you taking any insurance?

Yes, Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., actively accepts Medcost and BCBS of North Carolina insurance. Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., PLLC also utilizes a third-party billing service to aid with network provision for Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare.

What ages do you work with?

Currently, treatment is provided for individuals 18 and older only (no exceptions).

What are my options if I have insurance and you do not accept it; what will I have to do if I still want to start therapy services with Calm. Counseled. Thoughts?

Calm. Counseled. Thoughts. would then be considered an out-of-network provider, which means you would need to provide information to your insurance company for reimbursement. Calm. Counseled. Thoughts. can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt of services rendered) to submit to your insurance provider. You are encouraged to follow up with your insurance provider to follow proper reimbursement protocol.

 What are your fee(s)?

All initial (assessment) sessions cost $150. An individual counseling session costs $130.

What if I am running late? Need to cancel at the last minute?

Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., allows for a 7-minute grace period pending you have communicated this need with your psychotherapist. After 7 minutes, the session will be noted as a no-show/missed appointment. You will be allowed the option to reschedule later in the week pending availability or will be charged a no-show fee as detailed in the treatment agreement.

Why a fee if I have to cancel/no-show an appointment?

Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., values your time and aims to provide quality care. A last-minute cancellation/no-show appointment removes the opportunity for someone who may require services to book. A required fee helps to minimize no-shows/cancellations and thus allows for continued participation toward meeting defined treatment goals.

How long are the appointments?

The initial (assessment) session can last up to 75 minutes. A therapy hour is approximately 53-55 minutes.

Can I get you to sign the paperwork/required forms instead of me having to come to therapy?

Therapy is a service that is taken seriously and prioritized. Suppose you request forms to be completed – it will be at the discretion of the psychotherapist. In that case, additional fees that insurance companies do not cover will be required and determined after an extended time in which you and the psychotherapist have established a therapeutic rapport/relationship.  Suppose the goal of therapy is only to have a form(s) completed (whether for disability, social security, custody, military discharge, or something similar). In that case, that is not in line with the mission of Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., PLLC.

What exactly is therapy?

Therapy is a setting where you meet with your psychotherapist, define/discuss issues of importance and concern to you, and work to process presenting concerns with the psychotherapist's assistance. The psychotherapist is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, Person-Centered (Rogerian) techniques, Mindfulness, Trauma-Informed practices, and other researched and scientifically/empirically based approaches.

Therapy is the mirror used as a non-judgmental tool to assist you in separating and organizing chaos into what you define as beauty. Therapy is individualistic. Therapy is a collaboration and partnership toward healing.

What if we start and I feel that it isn’t working?

Communication is key, and while I will always place your concerns at the forefront of care – you will never be pressured to do something that you feel isn’t warranted/not working. You can always ask for a list of references to better assist you with selecting a therapist outside of Calm. Counseled. Thoughts., PLLC.

What if I have more questions?

Please request a consultation call; your psychotherapist will happily address your concerns.
